Chapter Seventeen

Something tickled my cheek, and my eyelashes fluttered in response. My eyes were heavy and no matter how hard I tried to crack them open, I couldn’t.

“Sleep, Gwen. It’s just me.”

Tristan.

I sighed at the sound of his voice. It was everything I wanted and needed to hear in that moment. The bed depressed next to me, which signaled he had crawled in beside me. I nestled up into him and breathed in deeply. His scent was intoxicating and relaxing all at the same time.

“I couldn’t be away from you any longer,” he said, as he kissed the top of my head.

“Don’t let my dad catch you,” I finally was able to say, and smiled into his side. “He’ll kill you for soiling me for any other.”

“You’re mine and only mine,” he growled into my ear. “I’ve already ruined you for all others.”

“Oh, is that so?” I teased. “I don’t know. We’re still young.”

“I’m never letting you go, Gwen. Ever.”

Tristan’s tone left no room for argument. Despite my teasing lilt, he did not find my words funny. After all our time apart, I felt bad for joking with him about such things. I willed my eyes to open. I blinked several times, and tried to stave off the fog that had settled over me. Once I’d adjusted to the dark, I turned to my side, and came face to face with the one man who never had to fear losing me.

“I am yours for eternity, Tristan. You have to know that.”

His lips touched mine in a tentative kiss at first, but when my mouth opened to his, he became hungry. Our tongues collided, and fought for dominance, until I gave it all up to him. He could lead this. I wouldn’t fight him anymore. I needed to be close to him. Whatever he was willing to give, I would take.

“Gwen,” he whispered. “I need to be inside of you.”

My breath caught in my throat. It had been so long. Or at least it had felt like it. We were in the Dowager house surrounded by witches and my father. But I couldn’t care less in that moment. I got onto my hands and knees and crawled on top of him, lifted my shirt as he grabbed my hips to help steady me.

“Are you sure?” he whispered into the room.

Leaning down, I captured his lips once more in a slower, more sensual kiss. “Now,” I commanded. He flipped me on my back, causing a yelp to escape my lips, but he stopped it with his mouth back on mine. He left me only to discard his clothes and pull my shorts and panties down my legs, frustratingly slow.

“Tristan, please,” I whined. “I need you.”

“Patience, baby. I want to take my time with you,” he chuckled, but grimaced.

“Tristan,” I said, and sat up quickly. “We need to take it easy; you’re still healing.”

He groaned at my words.

“Tris, we need you at one-hundred percent.”

He lowered his forehead to mine, inhaled deeply. “I’ve waited so long to have you back in my arms, Gwen.
